01Why a battery matters

Your panels work hardest while you’re out.

The most valuable electricity your panels make is the electricity you don’t have to buy. Tap to see what a battery changes.

30 to 40%of the power your panels make gets used in your home

Most of your power is made in the middle of the day, when most people are at work. Without somewhere to store it, the spare goes to the grid, often for just a few pence.

Typical figures. Your own split depends on your system size, battery size and when you’re home. We model it for your house at the survey.

02Honest numbers

Why you won’t see a big savings figure on this page.

Headline savings claims are how solar got its reputation. Your saving depends on your bills, your roof and your habits, so we work it out for your house and give you the cautious number.

6–9 yrs Typical payback. We quote the long end, because a promise you beat is better than one you miss.
  1. 1

    Your real bills

We start from what you actually use and pay, not a national average.

  2. 2

    Your actual roof

Direction, pitch and shading, checked on site, not guessed from a satellite photo.

  3. 3

    How much you’ll use yourself

With and without a battery, so you can see if a battery is worth it for you.

  4. 4

    A realistic export rate

Based on tariffs you can actually get, not the best rate on the market.

  5. 5

    Written down, signed off

You get the calculation in writing with a fixed price that stands.

03Straight talking

Roofs we turn down.

Not every roof should have solar on it. If yours is one of these, we will tell you at the survey rather than sell you something that won’t pay back.

  • North facing only, with no east, west or south roof to use.
  • Heavily shaded by trees or buildings for most of the day.
  • A roof that needs replacing soon. Re-roof first, then fit panels once.
  • Structurally unsuitable, where the roof can’t safely take the load.

04Your roof

Worried about your roof? Good question.

  • Fixings go under the tiles, onto the rafters, not drilled through your tiles.
  • Covered by our written guarantee for 5 years on workmanship, on top of the manufacturer warranties.
  • Re-roofing later? Panels can be lifted and refitted. Ask us and we’ll price it.
  • Scaffolding included in your fixed price, up and down safely.
05Export tariffs

Get paid 12p, not 3p, for the power you sell.

The best export rates come with conditions most installers never mention. Here is the plain comparison. As an MCS certified installer, our installs let you claim export payments.

TariffRate per kWhThe catch
Octopus, top tieraround 27pMust be an Octopus customer with a GivEnergy battery
Good Energy, Solar Savings Exclusive25pSystem must be installed by Good Energy

Rates as published in September 2026. Tariffs belong to the energy suppliers, change often and have their own terms, so check the current rate with the supplier before switching. We’ll talk you through the options at your survey.

06Already have solar?

Add a battery. Keep your own power for the evening.

Had panels fitted years ago without a battery? You’re likely selling most of your power for pennies. A battery added to your existing system needs no scaffolding, and it’s 0% VAT until 31 March 2027.

08Straight answers

What people ask us before they book

We calculate your figures from your own electricity bills and your own roof, not a national average, and we quote the cautious number. Typical payback is six to nine years and we quote the long end.

On a tiled roof the fixings go under your tiles onto the rafters, not through them. Every install is covered by our written workmanship guarantee, and if you ever re-roof, panels can be lifted and refitted.

Not always. Panels alone usually let you use 30 to 40 percent of what they make, because most is generated while you are out. A battery typically takes that to 70 to 80 percent. We show you the arithmetic for your house so you can decide.

Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not just direct sun. Output is lower in winter and higher in summer, and we model your system across the whole year using your roof direction and shading.

The system stays with the property and transfers to the new owner. Solar also improves your home’s EPC rating, which buyers increasingly look at.

We are a local West Midlands business, not a national call centre. We are MCS certified, and every install comes with a written 5 year workmanship guarantee on top of the manufacturer warranties.
