What it costs to keep warm in Redditch.
Redditch was built as a new town, so most homes are from the 1960s onwards, on mains gas and reasonably well insulated. That makes them easier and cheaper to convert than older housing.
In Redditch, 4.0% of homes have no mains gas connection and 9.6% of households are in fuel poverty. Across England the figures are 15.6% and 9.9%.
Sources: DESNZ households not connected to the gas network and sub-regional fuel poverty data (both 2024). Figures are for the Redditch Borough Council area.
Will a heat pump work in your Redditch home?
Homes around Redditch are not all equally suited to a heat pump. Here is the honest picture by property type, before anyone gives you a price.
New town estates at Matchborough, Winyates and Woodrow
Cavity walls and simple layouts. Narrow pipework from the 1970s and 80s is the main thing we check.
Newer homes at Brockhill and Webheath
Well insulated from new, so they need the smallest systems and the fewest radiator changes.
Older homes in Headless Cross and Astwood Bank
Victorian and Edwardian houses with solid walls. Expect a carefully sized system and some larger radiators.
Village homes
Feckenham, Beoley and Inkberrow have more homes on oil or LPG, where the grant is £9,000 until 31 March 2027.
Linked terraces
Some new town homes have little private outside space. We check where the outdoor unit can go before quoting.
Flats and maisonettes
No outside space of your own and a freeholder to persuade. We will tell you at the start.
MCS certified heat pump installers in Redditch
Heat pumps go wrong when they are sized from a photo by someone who never returns. We are a West Midlands business with a unit in West Bromwich, the same team that already fits air conditioning across Worcestershire, and we measure your home before we price it.
- MCS certified, which is what lets us claim the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for you.
- A room-by-room heat loss survey before any price, so the system is sized for your house.
- You know which radiators change, if any, before you commit.
- Our own engineers. Nobody is subcontracted, so the people who survey are the people who fit.
- We stay on call. If something needs looking at, you ring the people who fitted it.

When a heat pump is the wrong choice.
We would rather lose a job than fit a system that leaves you cold. If any of these apply to your home, we will tell you at the survey.
- Very poor insulation with no plan to improve it. We will tell you what to fix first, and it may be cheap.
- Nowhere sensible for the outdoor unit, or a spot too close to a neighbour’s window.
- No room for a hot water cylinder and no way to make some.
- A small flat on a cheap gas tariff, where the saving would be too small to be worth it.

Planning permission for heat pumps in Redditch
Most homes no longer need planning permission for an air source heat pump. The rules in England were relaxed on 29 May 2025, and many people still assume the old ones apply.
Villages such as Feckenham include conservation areas, where a unit on a wall or roof facing the road generally needs permission. Listed buildings always need consent. We check your address before we quote.
- No minimum distance from the boundary. The old one metre rule has gone.
- Units up to 1.5 cubic metres, up from 0.6, so modern quiet units are covered.
- Two units on a detached house, where one is not enough.
- A noise test still applies. The install must pass a calculation at your neighbour’s nearest window, and we do it before we quote.

Air source heat pumps Redditch: your questions answered
Usually not. Since 29 May 2025 an air source heat pump on a house in England is normally permitted development: there is no minimum distance from the boundary, the unit can be up to 1.5 cubic metres, and a detached house can have two. It must pass a noise calculation at your neighbour's nearest window. Listed buildings always need consent, and in conservation areas a unit on a wall or roof facing the road generally needs permission. Villages such as Feckenham include conservation areas. We check the rules for your address before we quote.
Mostly, yes. Homes at Matchborough, Winyates, Woodrow and Greenlands have cavity walls and compact layouts, which keeps the system small. The two things we check are narrow microbore pipework, common in that era, and where the outdoor unit sits on a tighter plot. Both are settled at the survey.
Yes. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 off an air source heat pump, or £9,000 for homes with no mains gas that heat with oil or LPG until 31 March 2027. We apply for it and it comes straight off your price. The work also carries 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Separately, the council-run Warm Homes: Local Grant offers free upgrades to lower-income homes, and for Redditch it is run through Redditch Borough Council as part of a Midlands consortium, so check with the council for current availability.
As a guide, a system for a typical 3-bed semi is around £12,400 fitted, which is about £4,900 after the £7,500 grant. Larger or older homes cost more, and well insulated ones can cost less. Your price is fixed in writing after a free heat loss survey, with the grant already taken off.
Sometimes, a few. Heat pumps run at lower water temperatures, so some rooms may need a larger radiator. Your survey report tells you exactly which radiators change, if any, before you commit.
Most installs take around three days. You have heating and hot water for most of that time, and we tell you what happens on each day before we start.
